If you don’t know what words to omit when first begin to search Google for something, that’s ok.  After your initial search using any keyword or phrase, look at the results.  If there are websites that don’t seem to match, omit a word that appear in the title or description the top website. Continue to do this until you see the results you desire.

Example 3: music history -apple -youtube -popular will remove the words apple, youtube and popular from the search results.

Tips for Effective Exclusion

While the minus sign operator is straightforward, employing it effectively can enhance your search experience:

Important:  Putting your keyword or phrase in quotations will result in a different type of filtering results.  So, the instruction described in this article applies only to entering search terms without quotations around them.
